ARTIST BIO: Juan Vicente Rodríguez Bonachea graduated in 1976 from San Alejandro Academy in Havana and in his short but prolific career, seduced the art establishment in Spain, the United States, France, Mexico, Costa Rica, Switzerland, and of course Cuba, with his original pictorial language. He participated in more than a 100 solo and group exhibitions, and as an illustrator brought a variety of characters to life in books for children, youth and adults. With his prodigious imagination he shaped a unique world populated by mythical creatures and exhibited a deep command of oneiric inventions all the while maintaining deft compositional balance. The critic Virginia Alberdi described him as "the architect of a poetic imagery that resulted in an amazing original fauna." In his work, she said, “we can recognize a refined craft of painting and a well-balanced chromaticism”.
