Bolt fc. 1804", inscribed on the left below the depiction "Kuhner d.". Date: 1804 Description: Half-length portrait of the legendary Swiss national hero in three-quarter profile and costume. As a masterly known crossbowman, the fletching of an arrow or bolt can be seen in front of his chest. As a heroic figure, Tell plays a role above all in the formation of the Swiss Confederation and its liberation from Habsburg rule. Tell is also known for the famous apple shot, in which he shot an apple from his son's head with his crossbow at the king's insistence. Person: Charlotte Corday (1768 Les Ligneries-1793 Paris) was a French noblewoman and great-granddaughter of the playwright Pierre Corneille. She gained notoriety during the French Revolution for the murder of the radical journalist, politician and scientist Jean Paul Marat. She was guillotined four days after her assassination.       Selbstbildnis. Schabkunstblatt. 12,2 x 9,2 cm. (1799). Nicht in Nagler und Le Blanc. Johann Friedrich Bolt war Schüler des Kupferstechers Daniel Berger und gut bekannt mit Wilhelm von Schadow. Neben der Handzeichnug beherrschte er vor allem die Punktiermanier und auch aus dem Medium der Schabkunst kennt man vortreffliche Beispiele. Nagler qualifiziert seine Portraits als "von sprechender Ähnlichkeit". - Ganz ausgezeichneter, samtener Druck mit schmalem Rand. Minimal nur altersspurig, kleine Montierungsreste verso sowie eine kleine Bleistiftannotation, sonst sehr gut erhaltenes Exemplar des seltenen Blatts.
