Carl Böker, Going to the Fair in Glottertal

      Est: €25,000 - €30,000

Signed and dated lower left: Carl Böker 1870 The present painting is probably one of Carl Böker's most important works, with which the artist took part in the Berlin Academy exhibition for the first time in 1870 and which was ‘praised by art critics’, as the Lexikon der Düsseldorfer Malerschule writes (vol. 1, p. 167). The lexicon cites a smaller version of the composition; another, also smaller version was sold in the 889th Lempertz auction (20 May 2006, lot 1368). Paul Dröhmer produced a steel engraving after the painting and thus ensured that the popular motif became widely known.
