In 1904 he passed the entrance examination to the Vienna Art Academy, but renounced admission and remained at Jaschke. 1908 Participated in the spring exhibition of the Vienna Secession. In 1909 he exhibited at the Salon Pisko with the Neukunstgruppe. 1910-1911 Böhler traveled to Russia, Siberia, China, Japan, and India; 1913-1914 to South and North America. He then worked in Germany, Switzerland, Italy, Belgium, Holland, Spain, England, Denmark, Norway, and Africa. Böhler was close friends with Josef Hoffmann, who set up his studio in Vienna. Böhler exhibited at the Vienna Secession from 1920. In 1928 he became a member of the Österreichischer Werkbund (ÖWB), for which he designed postcards.From 1936 to 1950 Böhler lived in the USA. He then returned to Vienna. 1954 Prize of the City of Vienna for painting and graphics and title of "Professor". Friederike Maria (Federica) Beer-Monti (* January 27, 1891 in Vienna as Friederike Maria Beer; † July 12, 1980 in Kāneʻohe, Hawaii) was an Austrian-American muse of well-known Austrian artists and gallery owner. Her friend Hans Böhler painted her as a nude in 1908; the painting was exhibited at the Vienna Secession. In 1914 she was painted by Egon Schiele, and in 1920 by Gustav Klimt. A portrait planned by Oskar Kokoschka did not materialize. Emigration to the USA in 1935/1936. There she directed the "Artists' Gallery" founded by Hugh Stix (Willem de Kooning, Louis Eilshemius, Louise Nevelson, Ad Reinhardt) and helped Austrian artists to emigrate to the USA (Max Oppenheimer). Selma Hortense Burke (August 31, 1900 - August 29, 1995) was an American sculptor and a member of the Harlem Renaissance movement from 1935; married to writer Claude McKay, later to architect Herman Kobbe. Burke taught at the Harlem Community Arts Center under the tutelage of sculptor Augusta Savage and worked for the Works Progress Administration on the New Deal Federal Art Project. 1933-1934 Burke was in Vienna on a grant from the Rosenwald Foundation. 1936 Studied with Aristide Maillol in Paris, where she met Henri Matisse. Burke created the bas-relief of President Franklin D. Roosvelt for the 10-cent coin and portrayed numerous African American figures (Duke Ellington, Mary McLeod Bethune, Booker T. Washington). 1979 Women's Caucus for Art Lifetime Achievement Award. Teaching activities: Livingstone College, Swarthmore College, Harvard University, Friends Charter School in Pennsylvania, and Harlem Center, New York.
