Boesen studied at the Academy of Fine Arts, but soon left to become a landscape painter. After exhibiting from 1836, he received the Academy's traveling scholarship in 1845-47 and remained mainly in Italy. The Royal Painting Collection has a youthful work from Norway and two of his Italian paintings.
