      Est: $300 - $400

SIMEON BOERUM (1724 - 1775) Noted politician from Brooklyn, New York who represented the colony in the Continental Congress in 1774 and 1775. In that capacity he helped defeat the Galloway Plan for union and reconciliation with Great Britain. A particularly cold February of 1775 left him ill and he left Philadelphia for his home in New York where he died in July without the opportunity to sign the Declaration the following July. Rare A.D.S. in the third person, 4pp. legal folio, New York, Aug. 24, 1768, being the Last Will and Testament of Weynant Bennet. Bennet appoints Boerum as one of the three executors of the will. Boreum is one of the rarest of all members of the Continental Congress to obtain; this is the first we have seen appear on the market. Provenance: Walter Benjamin Autographs , 1951; The Collection of Henry E. Luhrs. Usual folds, some minor marginal chips, some of which are repaired, else very good.
