      BOCKSDORFER, SEBALD (ATTR) - HEAD OF JOHN THE BAPTIST ON A PLATTER Tyrol, Innsbruck, c. 1500/10 D. 24 cm The head of the Saint with richly curled hair and barb lying on a round plate, the eyes half closed and with open mouth. Visible inner organs on the cut part of the neck. Hardwood, carvd in full round. Remnants of old polychromy, the plate later. The movable tong is missing. Old Franconian Collection. Attribution to Bocksdorfer by Dr. Albrecht Miller, Ottobrunn. Bocksdorfer came from a family of artist at Memmingen and moved to Innsbruck in 1490 where he died in 1519. A sleeping St. Peter at the Mount of Olives from Mils near Hall is very closed to the St. John's head at hand. Lit.
