Oil on panel Netherlands, 17th century Attributed to Pieter de Bloot (1601-1658) – Dutch painter of the Golden Age Signed with monogram lower center on the barrel ‘B.’ (traced) Dimensions: 42 x 69 cm Baroque gilt frame: 73.5 x 98.5 cm Good condition Pieter de Bloot painted a variety of interiors and peasant scenes in the tradition of the Flemish School that was highly sought-after by collectors and had major impact on his artistic circle Estimate by Auctionata Expert: 8,000 Euro Condition: The painting is in good condition, consistent with age. The paint surface shows fine craquelure throughout. The edges are slightly rubbed and show tiny losses of paint, due to framing. Inspection under UV light reveals that the monogram has been traced. It also seems that the new varnish covers a number of old retouchings to the sky and the figures. The panel measures 42 x 69 cm and the frame 73.5 x 98.5 cm. Pieter de Bloot (1601-1658) Nothing is known on the training of the Dutch painter Pieter de Bloot, who grew up in Rotterdam. He painted landscapes that resemble the style of Jan van Goyen. His peasant scenes and interiors show the influence of Adriaen Brouwer, David Teniers the Younger and David Vinckboons. He also painted some historical and religious scenes and still lifes.
