‘Study for Dust Opening and Closing Number 1’ Oil on linen USA, 2008 Paul Bloodgood (b. 1960) – American artist Signed by the artist, titled, and dated on the verso Provenance: David Zwirner Gallery, New York to Private collection, USA. Dimensions: 46 ¼ x 38 in. (117.5 x 96.5 cm) Very good condition Estimate: $7,000-$9,000 Paul Bloodgood is a painter who has much in common with his mentor artist, Jackson Pollock. This painting, made in 2008, forges a dialogue with early 20th-century abstraction and 17th-century late Ming landscape painting. Bloodgood explores the expressive capability of line as an embodiment of form. The composition shows a kind of rough topography or abstracted landscape. The artist’s compositions begin with preparatory collages that combine photographs and drawings to create a new painting vernacular through a mediated process. Bloodgood spent time as the co-owner and curator of AC Project Room in the late 1990s, an artist-run commercial space in New York. Paul Bloodgood (American, b. 1960) To create his fractured perspectives with varying depths, Paul Bloodgood begins with a collage from works by other artists, particularly Jackson Pollock (1912-1956). His abstractions which have been exhibited in the United States and Europe, often feature gridlines and a colorist approach. Since a brain injury in 2010, disjointed objects are a frequently treated subject in his work. Bloodgood was educated at Yale University and the Maine College of Art and was chosen as a 2009 Guggenheim Fellow Condition In overall very good condition. Shipping costs excl. statutory VAT and plus 2,5% (+VAT) shipping insurance.
