It depicts a charming river landscape in spring. The artist’s style refers to impressionist paintings. The painting is in age-appropriate condition. There are some framing marks. The paint surface is slightly scratched, especially in the upper area. The work is signed lower right ‘V. Bleyer’. The wooden frame shows distinct traces of age and use. The framed overall dimensions are 60 x 49 cm. The stretcher measures 54 x 42.5 cm. Viktor Bleyer (1901-1979) The artist was born on the 24th of December in 1901 in Moravian Ostrava and studied at the Technical University in Vienna. In the meantime, he also completed a training as painter as pupil of Edward Veith and Wilhelm Kaufmann. Bleyer is particularly known for his landscapes in watercolor and oil. His works are for example owned by the Landesmuseum Niederösterreich, the Federal Ministry of Education and the Arts and the Museum of Ethnology (all in Vienna). It reveals a colorful flower meadow with butterflies. The composition oscillates between the poles of abstraction and figuration and surprises by fine deliberate scratch marks in the paint surface, emphasizing the dynamic character of the painting. The work is signed lower right ‘V. Bleyer‘. The painting is in good condition considering its age; it only shows light marks along the edges and corners. The cardboard is verso laminated on wood and measures 30 x 41 cm. The framed overall dimensions are 34 x 45 cm.
