(1810-1891) Confederate brigadier general, one of the few to be born in the North, graduated West Point with Robert E. Lee, served in administrative roles during much of the war due to advancing age. War-date A.D.S. as a colonel, 1p. 4to., Portsmouth, Aug. 17, 1861, a circular distributed to the third brigade of Virginia volunteers outlining the procedure of requesting furloughs. Blanchard would be promoted to brigadier general one month later. Slightly toned and partly inlaid.
