          Arnold Blanch (American 1896-1968) Abstract harbor scene Ink and watercolor Unsigned 25 1/2in. x 23 1/4in (65cm. x 59cm) Framed: 41in. z 38in (104cm. x 98cm) Accompanied by a letter dated Dec. 9, 1970. from Oscar Krasner, Krasner Galleries, New York. Certifying this painting as a genuine Arnold Blanch. Originally signed on the back of the stretcher, but signature was lost at reframing. Blanch taught at the California School of Fine Arts in San Francisco In California he discovered his love for teaching and became friends with Diego Rivera when Rivera was working on his City College murals. Blanch also taught at the Art Students League in New York from 1935 to 1939 and at the League's Woodstock branch through the 1960s.

          ARNOLD BLANCH (1896-1968) A Stick of Tobacco After Curing. Oil on canvas. 641x940 mm; 25 1/4x37 inches. Signed in oil, lower right recto. 1942. In 1941 the president of American Tobacco Company approached then director of the New York gallery, Associated American Artists, Reeves Lewenthal to select leading American scene painters to travel to the American southeast to capture in paintings the planting, harvesting, curing and auction of tobacco crops. Amongst the nineteen artists who received the commissions for this project were Arnold Blanch, Aaron Bohrod, and Ernest Fiene. These paintings appeared in adds for Lucky Strike brand cigarettes from 1942 - 1947. In the 1940s over 1.5 million American farms were dedicated to supplying the tobacco industry.
