Peter Thomas Blake Sold at Auction Prices

Painter, Illustrator, b. 1932 -

Artist Peter Blake, a member of the Pop Art movement, is most famous for his work on The Beatles' Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band (1967) record cover. Featuring a variety of notable people and objects in a colorful collage, the cover gained status as an iconic artistic example of the 60s counterculture. Created as a collaborative effort with his wife, Jann Haworth, and art dealer Robert Fraser, it's a testament to his theory of art as an act that should bridge disciplines and be experienced in partnership with others.

Early paintings, such as On the Balcony (1955), had the semblance of a collage and included cultural references. Artist Peter Blake received British Knighthood in 2002 for contributions in the visual arts. Peter Blake's drawings and paintings express his continued interest in the Pop Art culture with recent works such as American Trilogy (2012) and 100 Sources of Pop Art (2014). Find diverse collectible and vintage serigraphs for sale online and at auction and fill that empty space on your wall.

▲ Sir Peter Blake RA (b.1932) 'Alma Cogan', 1993 a book cover for 'Alma Cogan' by Gordon Burn, signed 'Peter Blake' l.r., watercolour 24 x 36cm Provenance: With Waddington Galleries; with Robert Sandelson, London; The David and Pam McCleave Collection of Modern British Art. Exhibited: Royal Academy Summer Exhibition 1993, catalogue no.21. Known as 'the girl with the laugh in her voice', Alma Cogan (1932-1966) was one of the most celebrated British popular singers of the 1950s and early 60s. The book blends fact and fiction, imagining an alternative reality in which Alma Cogan survives beyond her real-life death in 1966. This creative narrative explores themes of fame, memory, and the impact of celebrity culture. The novel was critically acclaimed and won the Whitbread Book Award for First Novel in 1991, solidifying Burn's reputation as a distinctive voice in contemporary literature. Condition Report: Framed: 39 x 49.5cm On very close inspection there appears to be a slight undulation to the paper in the centre, however in our opinion this does not affect enjoyment of the work. Appears to be in otherwise good condition. Well presented and ready to hang. Not viewed out of glazed frame.
