This vintage print was made by JEB. Kady Van Deurs was the author of The Notebooks That Emma Gave Me: The Autobiography of a Lesbian (1978) and Panhandling Papers (1989), a collection of excerpts, essays, letters, and drawings. Kady and Pagan lived together in a small cabin in the woods. A different photograph of them together appears on the cover of JEB's book, Eye to Eye: Portraits of Lesbians, originally published in 1979 by Glad Hag Books and reissued by Anthology Editions in 2021.

This vintage print was made by JEB. Barbara Smith is a groundbreaking and lifelong Black feminist writer, activist, scholar, and organizer. As one of the original founders of the influential Black feminist Combahee River Collective, Barbara continues to be a key figure in the creation and realization of modern intersectional feminism. Beverly Smith is a Black Feminist health advocate, writer, academic, theorist and activist who is a co-author of the Combahee River Collective Statement. They are twins. This photograph depicts Audre Lorde, self-described "Black, lesbian, feminist, mother, poet warrior," in her home study in Staten Island where she lived from 1972-87. It was during her time living in this house that Lorde penned a number of influential works, co-founded Kitchen Table: Women of Color Press, and spoke at the 1979 National March on Washington for Lesbian and Gay Rights.
