(25.4 x 40.6cm.) * Provenance: MacConnall-Mason & Son, London 1975 ** Notes: The single masted vessel in the foreground is flying the union flag with a white border known as the Pilot Jack which denotes that it a Pilot Cutter. Born in 1799, Thomas Binks lived in Hull where he was apprenticed as a painter and decorator. He was the pupil of Thomas Meggitt of Hull. He was one of the best-known members of the Hull schools of marine painters, the best known of which was a fellow apprentice, John Ward of Hull.
