Australian Aboriginal Bark Painting by Bob Bilinyarro

        Est: $1,000 - $1,500

Bob Bilinyarra (Wulaki / Djinang, Aboriginal Australian, Milingimbi, 1915 to 1975) ca. 1970 CE, "Frogs." A beautiful hand painted eucalyptus bark painting by the artist Bob Bilinyarra using traditional Aboriginal techniques and materials. The panel depicts stylized frogs in black, red, ochre, and white paints. The amphibians seem to gather around a circular and stippled cluster of eggs. This painting was done in the style of West Arnhem Land, which is part of the oldest continuous tradition of painting (from rock art to bark) known in the world. The earth tones are created from naturally occurring plants and minerals. The frog was Bilinyarra's totem and frogs played a role in the Dreamtime creation stories.
