Candido Bido (Dominican Republic, 1936 - 2011) "Soledad y Luz" (Solitude and Light) Oil on Canvas. Signed and dated ('66) lower right. Sight Size: 33.25 x 25 in. Overall Framed Size: 34 x 26 in. Candido Bido was a Dominican painter best known for his use of tropical colors, bold lines, and simplified forms. His depictions of sun-drenched landscapes, exotic animals, fruit, flowers, and portraits of local women, evince a deep love of his surroundings. Born on May 20, 1936 in Bonao, Dominican Republic, he went on to study at the Escuela de Altos de Chavon. During the 1960s, the artist taught at the National School of Arts and later founded the Cultural Center Plaza in his hometown of Bonao. Bid? died on March 7, 2011 in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. Today, his works are held in the collection of the Galer?a de Arte Moderno in Santo Domingo.

DOMINICAN REPUBLIC, 1936-2011 A large oil and acrylic on canvas abstract painting by Dominican modernist Candido Bido. Titled "El Drama", work depicts two opposing female busts staggered in height with an abstract form bird in the foreground. The work was executed in Bido's iconic blazing yellow, turquoise blue, and fiery orange palette. Bido was the Dominican Republic's first artist to have been exhibited in Paris. The work is signed lower right "Bido" dated "91", and annotated, signed, dated, and titled on verso.
