Appian (French, 1818-1898), Une Mare Environs de Rossillon, 1867, signed in the plate u/l, rare 1st state prior to the addition of lettering, image size 9.25 in. by 6.5 in., sheet appears to be trimmed. The second, Albion Harris Bicknell (American. 1837-1915) Snow Laden Forest Clearing, etching and aquatint, signed A.H. Bicknell in pencil l/r margin, also signed in the plate l/l, image 7.5 in. by 10.25 in., matted, framed. The third, Charles Jac Young (C. Jac Jung) (German/American. 1880-1940), the fourth, A River in Flood, 1912, illegibly signed in pencil l/r, inscribed illegibly l/l, image size 9.25 in. by 6.75 in. (Cond: slight indentation on the left side margin of the Appian, the 4th with some overall light toning, the margin of the Appian, good) cf. Born Charles Jacob Jung, the artist family immigrated to the States in 1881. He exhibited under his birth name up through the early 1920s. Young was a student of Robert Henri at the National Academy of Design. A member of the Society of American etchers, he exhibited at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, the Corcoran Gallery of Art, and the Society of Independent Artists.

      ALBION HARRIS BICKNELL (1837-1915) American artist, born in Turner, Maine, he moved to Boston and studied art at the Lowell Institute around 1855. From about 1860 to1862, he studied at the  cole des Beaux-Arts in Paris under Thomas Couture. In 1864 Bicknell established a studio in Boston and began exhibiting at the Boston Athenaeum annually. He helped found the Allston Club in 1866. After moving to Malden, Massachusetts, in 1875, he began experimenting with the monotype process.
