This is a prime example of Bianchi's incredible talent for telling a story with his art as you see a beautiful maiden appearing in a king's court. Just beautiful. So much to see in this painting! Very good condition overall with some craquelure in the paint. No visible repairs or in-painting. Art: 23.5 x 35.5 in. Fine antique giltwood frame: 34 x 44 in. Congratulations to the winning bidder!

Condition A-: creases, abrasions and minor restoration along vertical and horizontal folds. Two-sheets. Framed. Bianchi was a book illustrator and poster designer whose imagery focused primarily on beautiful women. His poster for Croisieres / Cosulich (see Swann Sale 2484 Lot 403) similarly depicts a fashionable woman on the bow of the ship, waving her arm as her scarf blows in the wind. This is the smaller, two-sheet format; the large format is four-sheets. Fiat p. 151, Bolaffi p. 19, Auto s'Affiche p. 234.

"One of the outstanding features of the Italian Line schedules was the cruises, especially after the entry into service of the superliners Rex and Conte di Savoia in 1932; after the abrupt decline in the number of emigrants allowed to enter the United States, a new Tourist Class took the place of the old Third, catering above all for the growing American middle class and those who could not afford a First Class ticket but wanted to travel as tourists to the Old World in sufficient dignity and comfort . . . ALBERTO BIANCHI (1882-1969) Fiat/Ardita. Considering the time period during which this poster was produced, its nationalistic fervor can be somewhat unsettling. However, you have to take into consideration that Mussolini's autocratic policies forced Fiat to reconfigure its plans to become an international presence and to concentrate instead on the domestic market. To that end, the speedy lass in this 4-sheet Bianchi poster makes a 'Bold' statement as she whizzes past in her Fiat (a Balilla one has to imagine), urging the viewer to do as she has done to 'get out and conquer' the road.
