Giraud, Les Arts du métal, recueil descriptif et raisonné des principaux objets ayant figuré à l'exposition de 1880 de l'Union centrale des Beaux-Arts, Paris, A. Quantin imprimerie, 1881 Alfred-Emmanuel-Louis Beurdeley succèda à son père en 1875. Il sut s'entourer de collaborateurs habiles et l'entreprise continua de prospérer. Spécialisé uniquement dans la fabrication de meubles de luxe copiés sur les beaux meubles anciens du Mobilier National, il excelle dans cette discipline. Il ne fabriqua que très peu de meubles originaux. Il participa et brilla aux expositions internationales en 1878. À celle d'Amsterdam en 1883 il obtint une médaille d'or et fut membre du jury à Paris en 1889. Il ferma ses ateliers en 1895 et vendit ses collections. Le fond de l'atelier était si riche qu'il fallu cinq ventes pour liquider plus de deux mille pièces. Quand aux meubles et objets d'art, elles comprirent trois mille neuf cent quarante-cinq numéros, en quinze ventes. Le présent cartel, réalisé d'après un modèle d'André-Charles Boulle, nous montre la grande qualité de Beurdeley dans l'art de la copie de grandes oeuvres. L'original de cette pendule faisait d'ailleurs partie de la collection de M. Beurdeley et a été exposé dans la section rétrospective des Arts du métal.

Fine enamel dial with star decoration. 3 fine, engraved hands. Paris escapement striking the 1/2 hours on bell. Matt- und glanzvergoldete Bronze. Rundes, mit Masche beschmücktes Uhrgehäuse unter Giebelkranz mit Aufsatz in Form einer Henkelvase und eingerollten Volutenstützen, auf Bastionssockel mit Vierkantfüssen. Feines, mit Sternen verziertes Emailzifferblatt mit arabischen Stunden- und Minutenzahlen sowie Monatstagen. 3 feine, gravierte Zeiger. Pariser Werk mit 1/2-Stundenschlag auf Glocke. Reiche, vergoldete Beschläge und Applikationen in Form von Adlerköpfen, Füllhörnern, Girlanden, Akanthusdekor, Blättern, Rosetten und Zierfriesen. 38x15x53 cm. Provenienz: Aus einer englischen Sammlung. A.E.L. Beurdeley übernahm 1875 die Firma seines Vaters Louis Auguste, einer der wichtigsten Ebenisten während des II. Empire, und fertigte vor allem Möbel im Stil des 18. Jahrhunderts. Er galt als 'Star' der Ausstellungen und als bevorzugter Lieferant der königlichen und kaiserlichen Familien. Alfred Beurdeleys Werke waren jenen seines Vaters recht ähnlich, allerdings war er auch als hervorragender Bronzier und Kunstsammler bekannt. 1878 gewann Beurdeley die Goldmedaille an der 'Exposition Universelle'; da er derart erfolgreich war, gründete er sogar eine Filiale in New York. Fünf Jahre später wurde er zum 'Chevalier de l'Ordre national de la Légion d'Honneur' ernannt und von Regierung und Kritikern gleichermassen vergöttert. Lit.: D. By Alfred Beurdeley Fils, in the Louis XVI style, circa 1880 The circular white enamel Roman and Arabic dial signed A. Beurdeley Fils, A PARIS, the twin train movement with bell strike 14in. (35.5cm.) high NOTES Born in 1847, Alfred Beurdeley (d. 1919), took over his father's business in 1875. The shop was located at the Pavillon de Hanovre, while Beurdeley's workshops were at 20 & 24 Rue Dautancourt, Paris. The firm specialised in producing the most luxurious articles to the highest quality and was pre-eminent among the Parisian ebenistes and bronziers, especially for the refinement of its ormolu. Beurdeley exhibited at the International Exhibitions, such as Paris in 1878 and Amsterdam in 1883, and was awarded the Gold Medal at the Paris Exposition Universelle of 1889.
