      Clifford Kennedy Berryman (April 2, 1869 - December 11, 1949) was a Pulitzer Prize-winning cartoonist with The Washington Star newspaper from 1907 to 1949. He was previously a cartoonist for The Washington Post from 1891 to 1907. Political Cartoon, 14” x 14”, with signed presentation “To Jouette Shouse, with sincere regard- C.K. Berryman, Dec 1929”. Shouse was very active in the Democratic Party and was appointed chairman of the executive committee of the Democratic National Committee in May 1929. The cartoon shows Shouse holding a “Democratic Harmony Program” while the “southern Democracy” spanks the Al Smith Bolters.

      Clifford Kennedy Berryman (1869-1949) ink drawing depicts Roosevelt seated in his office chair, game heads mounted on the wall, politician and hunting guide stand in the doorway behind him and Berryman’s noted “Teddy” bear cub figure is seated on a stool beside Roosevelt. Signed “Berryman”, also inscribed “Clarissa L. Townsend – From C.K. Berryman”; c.1904-1907. The artist was a Pulitzer Prize winning cartoonist for the Washington Star newspaper and also for the Washington Post; one of his most noted cartoons titled “Drawing The Line In Mississippi” depicts a scene of hunter Theodore Roosevelt showing compassion towards a bear cub, which inspired New York Store owner Morris Michtom to create the “Teddy Bear”. 17 in. high x 17 in. wide.
