With 2 "coloured picture" plates included as inserts to parts 2 and 3, plate intended for part 1 not present. Original illustrated self-wrappers. A few instances of marginal dampstaining, some chipping to edges, 2" tear to soiled and detached cover leaf to no 1, lower corner of insert illustrations chipped, folding creases and edgewear to same. "COTTAGE GIRL" EDITION IN ORIGINAL WEEKLY PARTS. Mary E. Bennett was the prolific nineteenth-century author of such popular novels as The Gipsy Bride, or, The Miser's Daughter, The Cottage Girl, The Orphan Sisters, and Jane Shore, or The Goldsmith's Wife, of which an 8 page specimen, including an announcement of publication in serial form, is included in part 33 of the present edition. Originally published in 1868, this cheap reissue in weekly parts offered, in each of the first three parts, a "coloured picture" (320 x 255 mm) illustrating a scene from that installment, of which two have survived with this copy.
