Emerich Benkert (1825 Vienna - 1855 ): "Unpleasant encounters", painter meets dodgy characters in the forest, 19th century, Lithography Technique: Lithography on Paper Date: 19th century Description: A painter with a sketchbook under his arm encounters two dubious figures in the forest. The painter distances himself and holds the sketchbook tighter behind his back. His unease is reflected in his tense posture and facial expression. The sardonic demeanour of the two men does not bode well. The artist of this sheet, Emerich Benkert, is a master at reproducing facial expressions and gestures in such a way as to create a narrative dynamic in the picture. Source: Michael Auer () Faust.
