        Nov. 24, 2024

Benjamin Roubaud Lithograph Louis-Antoine Jullien 1840

        Est: $200 - $300

Joseph Germain Mathieu Roubaud (Benjamin), (French 1811-1847) Lithograph on newsprint, titled 'Pantheon Charivarigues', caricature of the French conductor Louis-Antoine Jullien, from Le Charivari c1840. In paper folio (5/24) At the beginning of 1838, Benjamin began the series of charged portraits entitled 'Le Pantheon charivarique'. This series, published in Le Charivari, then in the form of separate albums, was widely distributed and established its notoriety to the present day. It contains portraits of around a hundred celebrities of the time from the world of literature and the arts. These portraits inaugurate the so-called 'big head' process on a small body, a process which, subsequently, will often be taken up by other designers. From the estate of George Longstreet. Acquired from the estate of George Longstreet, a renown collector of fine original illustrations and prints, and whose collection has appeared in dozens of museums and exhibits over the last four decades. In 1976, Armand Hammer acquired 5000 Daumier objects that George Longstreet began to amass in Paris more than 50 years ago. The Daumier collection is now part of the permanent collection in the Armand Hammer Wing of the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. Measurements: Approx. sheet 9.875 x 14 inches; folio 13 x 20 inches Condition: Print in very good condition with some toning, fold, foxing, mounting tape. domestic Shipping: $60
