Born in Tunisia in 1951, the painter, sculptor and ceramicist Khaled Ben-Slimane grew up in Nabeul and came in touch with the long-lasting tradition of pottery. Between 1977 and 1979, he studied at the Academy of Fine Arts and Architecture in Tunis and at the Escuela Massana in Barcelona. He then opened a studio in Tunis. Ben-Slimane's works show a synthesis of Western and Far Eastern influences. The element of calligraphy is a recurring subject in his work. His favorite colors ocher, blue and gold are homages to Miró and Tàpies. Ben-Slimane's work has been exhibited internationally and is part of numerous private and public collections, including the British Museum and the Smithsonian Institution in Washington DC.
