Stefan Beltzig (b. 1944) Born in Bavaria, Stefan Beltzig was first active as a circus acrobat and traveled through countries, including India, Iran and the Near East. Stefan Beltzig (b.1944) Stefan Beltzig was born in 1944 in Bayrischzell and grew up in Munich-Schwabing. After school he completed an apprenticeship with sculptor Lothar Dietz. This was followed by travels in Europe and Asia; in Iran, he worked in tile and ceramic workshops. From 1964 he studied with Mac Zimmermann at the Munich Art Academy. In 1970 he received the Academy Award for Painting. He focused first on trompe l'oeil and photorealistic painting and turned then to drawing. From 1978, New York was his second home; there he was represented by the O.K. Harris Gallery until 1988, and he also worked as an illustrator. Beltzig currently lives in Mallorca and New York.
