Bert Beaver studied graduated from the Provincial Institute of Technology in Calgary (1946) and the Institute of Design, Chicago (1948). In 1967, he was hired by Harry Callahan to teach photography at the Rhode Island School of Design, Providence. He served as the head of the Photography Department from 1972-1980, after Callahan retired from the position, and remained a professor of photography until 1995. He is represented in the The Seventh Annual Portfolio of the Photographic Education Society, Rhode Island School of Design, which comprises photographs by the program's participants.
