      Collection of 2 drawings: (2) Adalbert de BEAUMONT (1809-1869) "Sanctuary of a Mosque in Cairo" Graphite on paper, 47 x 30 cm, titled, located and dated "February 44" on the back by the painter. Adalbert de Beaumont publishes books and drawings from his numerous travels. It is specified by Henri Mayeux that this drawing was made for the book "L'Art Arabe" published around 1880. "Piazza del Carmine - Venice" Graphite on paper, 30 x 43 cm, titled, located and dated on the back "8 bre 1842". (1) Louis Henri Georges SCELLIER DE GISORS (1844-1905) "Venice - The rio terra of the Catechumens at Saint Gregory - behind La Saluté" Graphite on paper 27x19.5cm titled upper right, signed and dated 1875 lower right. Provenance: Pierre-Henri MAYEUX then by descent. Pierre-Henri MAYEUX (1845-1929) Government Architect: The Sacré-Cœur in Paris, the Museum of Decorative Arts, the École Polytechnique, the Sèvres factory… painter, draftsman and engraver, exhibited at the Salon of French Artists from 1873 . Works in museum collections, including the Louvre (decorator of Sèvres vases placed in the large painting gallery), Orsay (drawings), Petit Palais (drawings)... Professor of decorative art at the École nationale des fine arts and author of reference books always republished including: La Composition decorative, 1885, Paris: Société française d'Édition d'Art et Fantaisies architecturales, 1898, Paris: Armand Guérinet. This watercolour comes from a unique and rare collection of watercolours by: Presziosi, Amadeo (1816-1882) & Adalbert de Beaumont (1809-1869) Constantinople and Egypt: 1845. Souvenir De Constantinople et d’ un Voyage fait en Egypte en 1845, par le Duc alors Prince Roger de Bauffremont, Aquarelles de Presiosi et du Vicomte Adalbert de Beaumont {manuscript caption title}, The watercolours are hinged on period card mounts size, 25 ¾” x 18 ¾”and range in sizes from 4 ½” x 5 ½” to 13” x 19 ½”. Several are signed by Preziosi and Beaumont, all captioned at a contemporary date on the mount, others additionally captioned in the image by the artists. The collection of watercolours of Turkey and Egypt accomplished by two notable 19th century Orientalists artist, documenting a journey through the region by a French prince. Some of the watercolours depict views of Bosphorus, Therapia and other sites in and around Constantinople. The remainder depict scenes and costumes of Egypt. Both Beaumont and Preziosi were known as illustrators of travel books in the middle nineteenth century. The present watercolours and drawings were never published and constitute a valuable and exquisitely rendered documentary of the sites visited and local costumes of the period.
