Lithographic map, 6 hand-coloured lithographic plates after Lord Beauclerk, drawn on stone by N. Hartnell (Plate 3 and 5 shaved with some loss to imprint, inner blank margins of each plate, title and most text leaves repaired or stengthened.) Modern purple morocco, covers with single fillet border in blind, the upper cover with red morocco title label lettered and bordered in gilt). Provenance: The Fraser Institute Free Public Library (early blindstamp to text leaves D1 and F2). RARE COMPLETE COPY OF 'THE MOST COMPREHENSIVE SET OF PRINTS DEALING WITH THE PAPINEAU REBELLION IN LOWER CANADA' (Spendilove): only two copies are listed as having sold at auction in the past twenty five years. As the title makes clear Lord Beauclerk, the third son of the Duike of St.Albans, was posted to Canada on active service at took part in the operations depicted and descibed here. 'The most valued account of the Rebellion of 1837 is the set of seven... lithographs after sketches made by... Beauclerk... The views are attractive in both coloring and composition, and depict various actions in November and December of 1837, at St. Hilaire de Rouville, St. Charles, and St. Eustache' (Mary Allodi 'Prints and Early Illustrations' in The Book of Canadian Antiques p.304).
