      JOHN WESLEY BEATTY ETCHING. 1890. Brown etching ink on paper. Signed in the plate and in pencil. Dated. With two remarques of a man plowing and a stabled horse. The main image is of a man plowing a field with two draft horses. Beatty is a listed painter and etcher but he is best known as the Director of the Carnegie Institute from the late 1890s-1920s and as an integral part of the Carnegie Internationals during that time. Size: 14 3/4" h., 21" w., framed 27" h., 33" w. Condition: some light foxing in the bottom portion; newer frame and matting.
