      Beatrice Beard (NY, early 20th century) colored pencil portrait of a young woman. Signed lower right. Sight size: 17 x 13.5 inches. A painter, lithographer, and illustrator of children's and ophthalmological books, she was a graduate of the Spence School and the Art Students League in New York, and studied in Paris. A member of the National Association of Women Artists, she had numerous one person shows in New York, and was represented by the Betty Parsons Gallery. Her works are in the collections of the Museum of Modern Art, the Art in Embassies program, and the Museum Section of the Guild Hall, East Hampton, N.Y. Her best known children's book was ``Broad Stripes and Bright Stars'' published in 1941.
