Now All Together Original Vintage Poster by C.C. Beall for WWII 7th War Loan Large

        Est: $700 - $1,000

This poster from 1945 by Cecil Calvert (C.C.) Beall (1892-1967) and commissioned by the Official US Treasury was made for promoting the 7th War Loan, just days after the victory in Europe. Beall was clearly inspired by the Pulitzer Prize winning photograph by Joe Rosenthal, the raising of an American flag by American soldiers in Mount Suribachi, Iwo Jima. This poster was used to encourage the public to make a last final effort and buy war bonds to ensure the good economy of the country. The image is depicted in Beall's distinct style, with the use of watercolors and bold contrasts. The 7th War Loan raised over $26 billion in 48 days, even though officials were concerned that the defeat of Germany could decrease the sale of bonds. C.C.Beall was an American commercial illustrator, who specialized in portraiture. He served as Art Director for the Democratic National Party. During WWII, Beall served as a war correspondent and was an eyewitness to the 1945 Japanese surrender on the U.S.S. Missouri. Beall studied under painter George Brant Bridgman at the Art Students League in New York City. Beall's clients included many of the major magazines publications, such as Collier's, Vanity Fair, Cosmopolitan, Saturday Evening Post, and many more. This is an Original Vintage Poster; it is not a reproduction. This poster is conservation mounted, linen backed, and in excellent condition. We guarantee the authenticity of all of our posters.

Now All Together Original Vintage Poster by C.C. Beall for WWII 7th War Loan

        Est: $600 - $1,000

CONTACT US BIOGRAPHY: Art Director for the National Democratic Party during President Roosevelt's administration, Cecil Beall was a well-known illustrator and portrait artist during the 1930s and 40s. His works were regularly featured in Saturday Evening Post and Collier's. He was born in Saratoga, Wyoming, and going a long way from his childhood home, he studied in New York at the Pratt Institute and Art Students League with George Bridgman. His early work was in a "bold poster style in watercolor marked by a strong pattern of light and shadow, which was favored by a number of illustrators" (208) of the Collier's magazine 'school'. During World War II, Beall produced a popular series of Collier's cover illustrations depicting decorated World War II heroes, and at the end of the war, he was one of the invited few aboard the U.S.S. Missouri to record the surrender ceremony. President Harry Truman chose Beall's painting as the official painting of the event. Memberships included the American Water Color Society, Hudson Valley Art Association, Salmagundi Club and Society of Illustrators, which gave Beall an exhibition Award of Excellence in 1961.
