  • Nicolaas Baur (1767-1820)
    Nov. 12, 2024

    Nicolaas Baur (1767-1820)

    Est: €500 - €1,000

Nicolaas Baur (1767-1820) ‘Ships in rough sea with officers on their way to the mother ship’, unsigned. This drawing is completely consistent in composition with a painting by Nicolaas Baur (‘Ships in open water’, oil on canvas, 78 x 94 cm) previously in the collection of art dealer L. Houthakker (stock no. 238) included in the RKD database (permalink: https://rkd.nl/imageslite/326036). The addition of an extra strip of paper to enhance the composition is a common occurrence in Baur’s oeuvre; see for example the drawing ‘View of Amsterdam seen from the northeast over the IJ’ now in the Hannemahuis museum in Harlingen, cat. no. 006005.
