Dimensions: 3.25 in. dia. x 1.25 in.h. Condition: Very good with no damage or repair. Provenance: Purchased from the Cleveland Museum of Art May Show, 1977.           Kenneth Francis Bates (American 1904-1994) "Peacock Box," 1930, enamel over gold leaf, signed and dated '30 to the base, the four sided tapering form decorated with peacock feathers in green, gold, aubergine, pale blue and yellow, the slightly domed top with knopped brass and enamel finial. Dimensions: 4 x 3.5 x 3.5 in. Condition: Very good original condition with some very minor crazing. Provenance: Purchased from the Cleveland Museum of Art May Show, 1930.           Kenneth Francis Bates (American 1904-1994) "Homage to Art Deco," 1984, cloisonne enamel on copper over painted wood box form, featuring a geometric design in blue, yellow, white, black and red,signed and dated to the base of the box, constructed as four panels applied to the sides and top. Dimensions: 1.5 x 3 x 3 in. Condition: Very good with possibly a minute loss to 2 top corners of box, but one needs a magnifying glass to see. Any other inconsistencies are in the making. Provenance: Purchased from the Cleveland Museum of Art May Show. Price: 500.00 Exhibited: Cleveland Museum of Art May Show, 1985. From the Cleveland Arts Prize Entry for 1963: ". . . Bates was arguably the greatest influence on multiple generations of American students who would embrace the (enamel) medium. Through the three books he wrote during his 43-year career as an instructor at the Cleveland Institute of Art, Bates also spread the gospel of enameling around the country. His first book, Enameling, Principles and Practicesn(1951), is still considered one of the standard texts in the field.
