        Draught of Ye Bay of Bulls Between The Town Of Rotta and Fort St. Catherine Engraving on paper ca. 1740 James Basire (1730-1802) Under the command of His Grace the Duke of Ormond; with the disposition of the frigates which were ordered to stand in by the shore, to favour the landing; as also the situation of the ground and bay, with that of the enemy's batteries & troops 21 x 16.5 inches (paper) (unframed) James Basire was a British engraver and cartographer who lived from 1730 to 1802. He was known for his work on maps and engravings of British history and architecture, and his maps were highly regarded for their accuracy and beauty. One of Basire's maps is titled "Draught of Ye Bay of Bulls Between the Town Of Rotta and Fort St. Catherine," which was created in the mid-18th century, around 1740. This map shows the Bay of Bulls, a natural harbor on the southwestern coast of Spain, near the town of Rota and Fort St. Catherine. Basire's map of the Bay of Bulls is highly detailed and features many place names, as well as depictions of natural features and other points of interest. It is notable for its artistic beauty and for its accurate representation of the geography of the area, as known at the time. Overall good condition. Foxing and perimeter paper wear present.

        English, c.1800. "Report (1800) from the Select Committee upon the Improvement of the Port of London", engraving after James Basire (English, 1730-1802). Engraving depicts a front view of "Design for a Stone Bridge to admit shipping to pass under its center arch, with views of the proposed embankments and fireproof warehouses above them", as inscribed on the lower right of the print. Engraving is Plate III of a large folio that was published in London in 1800 and 1803, as inscribed lower center "Ordered by the House of Commons to be printed 28th July 1800 -- and to be reprinted 1803". Inscribed lower right "James Basire, Sculp; Luke Hanserd & Sons, Printers". Framed 28.5" x 43", unframed sight size 16.25" x 30.5".
