      Oil on canvas Germany, 1926 Heinrich Basedow (1896-1984) – German painter and sculptor Signed and dated 'Basedow 1926' lower left Signed 'Heinz Basedow', titled 'Glockenblumen [Canterbury Bells]', inscribed 'Potsdam' and dated '1926' on the stretcher  Dimensions: 90 x 78 cm Frame: 115.5 x 101.5 cm Good condition Provenience: Private collection, Denmark Still life of New Objectivity: Synopsis made up of flowers, grasses, fir and bird painted in the style of those art movement of the Weimar Republic, which is characterized by the focus on the objects, the clarity of the shapes and the sharpness of the depiction Condition: The painting is in good condition consistent with the age. The varnish has been darkened and there are scattered marks overall. Edges and corners shows rubbed spots due to the frame and a spot with loss of color lower left. The frame shows usual signs of age and wear as well as loss of material at the edges. The dimensions are 90 x 78 cm and the frame measures 115.5 x 101.5 cm. Heinrich Basedow (1896-1984) The Berlin born artist Heinrich Basedow was a painter and sculptor of the 20th century and son of the same-named landscape painter (1865-1930). Basedow junior studied in the 1910s at the Academy of Fine Arts in Weimar under Robert Weise, interrupted by the war. In the 1920s the artist continued his education at the Bauhaus with the famous teachers Lyonel Feininger and Johannes Itten, after that he was trained as a wood-carver in Potsdam. At the beginning Basedows oeuvre is influenced by Symbolism and Jugendstil, later he was guided by the Italian art of the 15th century and by old German paintings among others. The artist developed his style attracted by the New Objectivity in the 1920s, when he created fantastic subjects made up of plants and animals.
