Property from a Private Collector, Amelia Island, GA Description: Probably Thomas John Banks (British, 1828-1896), Berry Pickers, Oil on Canvas, signed lower right, depicting a group of figures harvesting in a field, in a giltwood frame with linen mat. Frame size: 24 3/4 in. x 30 5/8 in. Measurements: Height: by sight 19 1/4 in. x Width: 25 2/4 in. Condition: Good restored condition, canvas relined, areas of inpainting in craquelure in upper sky, along edges, and in central mans vest, craquelure, in need of cleaning.

The composition combines many elements for dramatic expression; darkening clouds, light breaking through the clouds to highlight the three sheep in the foreground, and the silhouetting of the horses and wagon with workers against the luminous horizon.
