      Jun. 06, 2024

PAVEL BAŇKA 1941 - PENETRATION VII.

      Est: -

Experiments with movement and time belong to the recent work of Pavel Baňka, who has spent many years in the USA, where he has been a guest artist at various universities and has been represented by several major galleries in Chicago, San Francisco, Los Angeles and, most recently, New York. He has also worked as a teacher there. The movement of Penetration VII falls within the creative unit "between photography and painting". Moving away from referentiality to pure abstraction is a means of expressing the elusiveness of reality and pure, undisturbed perception. Pavel Baňka: Between Photography and Painting. 2022. Topičův salon, Prague. Pages 20 - 25 Technique: diasec, Signed: sign. verso: Pavel Baňka, 2023

PAVEL BAŇKA 1941 - NUDE WITH METAL ARCH (TRIBUTE TO VRATISLAV KAREL NOVÁK)

      Est: -

Pavel Baňka graduated from the Czech Technical University (1958-1963), in 1964-66 he was a member of a Czech beatnik group together with Václav Hrabět, Inka Machulková and Vlaďka Čerepková. He began to take up photography seriously in the late 1970s, when he left his job as a researcher and began his career as a freelance photographer and artist. Pavel Baňka's photographs give the impression of mysterious worlds, often in surreality and contradictions, and we can also find here positions of abstraction. Reality is both recorded and created. What is particularly remarkable in the entire body of work is the ability to constantly invent new possibilities. The figure in the presented composition is dynamic and provocative, and at the same time forms a contouring element of the composition. It is a tribute to an important Czech sculptor and designer. Published: Pavel Baňka - Reflexe. 2016. Artmap, Praha. p. 45 Technique: archival pigment print, Signed: sign. lower right and verso: Pavel Baňka
