    Est: $4,000 - $6,000

Lamar Baker (GA, 1908-1994), Doll with Chair, oil on canvas, signed lower right "Lamar Baker," housed in a modern gilt wood frame. Born in Atlanta, Lamar Baker entered the Art School of the High Museum of Art in 1927. He began his training with traditional figural drawing and maintained that style throughout his work - despite the art trends of the day. He tackled complex issues encountered in the "New South," in both his New York and Georgia studios. As he matured, his work gradually veered towards the surreal and, while still figural, culminated in using typical childhood playthings and southern settings to address issues of morality - of which this oil painting exemplifies. SS 31.75" x 21.5"; DOA 39.25" x 29"
