      [Lazare de BAÏF - Guillaume BOCHETEL]. EURIPIDE. La Tragedie d’Euripide, nommee Hecuba : Traduicte de Grec en rhythme Françoise, dediee au Roy. Petit in-8, maroquin rouge, double filet, dos à 5 nerfs orné de même, roulette intérieure, tranches dorées (Koehler). Brunet, II-1104 // Tchemerzine-Scheler, I-343. 104 / A-F8, G4 / 93 x 153 mm. Seconde édition, parue six ans après l’originale. Traduction du grec en vers français longtemps attribuée à Lazare de Baïf. En réalité, on la doit à un autre conseiller de François Ier, Guillaume Bochetel, à qui elle fut rendue au début du XXe siècle. Hecuba à proprement dit occupe les pages 7 à 76. Elle est suivie de plusieurs morceaux de poésie : La Fable de Caunus et Biblis, inspirée d’Ovide, Le Silve, d’après Silvanius, ainsi que différentes ballades, épitaphes et épigrammes. Petites taches brunes et menus frottements à la reliure. Annotations anciennes à l’encre partiellement effacées sur le titre. Provenance : Armand Bertin (ex-libris, pas dans la vente de 1854), sir Thomas Powell (double ex-libris Chivilydd, 20-21 avril 1888, n° 236) et Alfred Lindeboom (ex-libris).

De captivis & postliminio reversis; in quibus tractatur de re navali, second edition, woodcut printer's device to title, numerous woodcut illustrations, many whole-page, title with a few small silked repairs, a few others elsewhere, some light foxing and soiling, mainly marginal, modern black calf, [Adams B37], 8vo, Paris, Robert Estienne, 1549. *** A treatise on early navigation and boats, clothing and vases in antiquity. Based on the writings of classical authors, some of the woodcut illustrations derive from Trajan's column. A reprint of the 1536 Estienne edition, which was Estienne's first illustrated book. Appended to the end, is Antonio Telesio’s lexicon of some 150 colour-related terms used by classical authors, primarily with reference to clothes.

Woodcut illustrations, beautiful criblé initials, printer's device on title. Tear without loss repaired in p. 17/18, a few stains and slightly foxed. Modern binding in 3/4 vellum A reprint of the 1536 Estienne edition, which was Estienne's first illustrated book. Baif's treatise deals with ships, clothing and vases, while Telesio's discusses colour with reference to clothing. This edition not in Adams nor in Colas. Ref. Renouard, Estienne, 75 n° 22
