      Ludolf Backhuijzen II (1717-1782) Schepen op woelig water voor de kust l.o. get. pen en penseel in o.i. inkt, z.l., 18,5x27,5 cm Veiling: Berlijn, uit Coll. Ritter von Mallmann, 13 juni 1918, lotnr. 3 Veiling: Paul Brandt, Amsterdam, 31 maart 1942; lotnr. 535 als Ludolf Backhuysen I (1630/31-1708), met afb., als: "Storm aan een rotsige kust, waarop een driemaster is gestrand; aan de kust, waarop geheel links een wachttoren, talrijke personen in opwinding." De toeschrijving in deze veiling van 1942 aan Ludolf Backhuysen I bleek niet juist. Wij danken Erik Löffler en Charles Dumas van het RKD voor hun toeschrijving aan de kleinzoon Ludolf Backhuijzen II.
