In the background, the silhouette of the Notre-Dame rests on the right horizon; on the left, the scaffolding of the in-construction Sacré-Coeur rises at the top of Montmartre hill. This is one of three posters for Yvette Guilbert by her lifelong friend, Bac; she opened at the Scala on September 29, 1893, having signed a record-setting, two-year contract with the large theater on the Boulevard de Strasbourg. « Charles Baudelaire - Le Romantique démoniaque » Fusain gouaché sur carton 32 x 24 cm signé, titré et annoté : « En 1884 Théodore de Banville me mena dans la cour de l’Hôtel Lauzun pour me montrer le logis de Baudelaire où il avait installé sa fumerie… - « Si vous supprimez « Les fleurs du mal » dit-il, il n’y a plus de Baudelaire. Sans les ombres pas de lumière. » Très bon état. Écrivain, peintre et affichiste, Ferdinand Bac était le petit neveu de Napoléon 1er. En raison de ses liens familiaux, il avait ses entrées à la cour de Napoléon III et fréquenta la plupart des personnalités politique et artistique de l'époque. Il fut rapidement reconnu comme l’un des meilleurs observateur et caricaturiste de son temps. But what's this? She holds in her hands a decrepit marionette, in top hat and tails and a reaper's sickle, labeled "Fin o' Sìec," or "End of Century." In the background, the silhouette of Notre-Dame rests on the right horizon; on the left, the scaffolding of the in-construction Sacré-Coeur rises at the top of Montmartre hill. This is one of three posters for Yvettte Guilbert by her lifelong friend, Bac; she opened at the Scala on September 29, 1893, having signed a record-setting, two-year contract with the large theater on the Boulevard de Strasbourg. Lemercier, Paris This particularly rare Loïe Fuller poster, often considered the first for her French debut, has a definitive date of 1892. Unlike the Anonymous poster advertising the same engagement at the Folies-Bergère, Bac's effort is a far truer illustration of the movement and shape of the Serpentine Dance, which suggests a closer, more direct experience from which to design.
