It is a delightful, partly white heightened, study sheet of peasant theme. Drawn are majorly women in traditional costume as anatomy and garment studies, as well as baskets and a cart. The sheet constitutes the excellent drawing abilities of the artist. The chalk drawing is mounted on a decorative passe-partout and framed. The artist’s signature is located in the lower right area of the image. The work is described on the reverse of the frame with ‘Figure Studies at Newhaven, T.B. Aylmer (fl. 1834/56) Folio No. 135a’. In addition, it holds a note of the framer ‘Framery Ltd, 39 Blandford Street, London W1H 3AF, 01-935 4838’. The total dimension of the work including the frame is 35 x 39.4 cm, and 12.8 x 18 cm without frame. Thomas Brabazon Aylmer (1806- ca. 1856) Thomas Brabazon Aylmer was a general at the British Army, and a capable artist who exhibited at the Royal academy.
