Very good condition While on assignment for the Saturday Evening Post for an article featuring Sammy Davis Jr., Sid Avery was invited onto the set of the original "Ocean's 11". After a scene around a pool table, Avery asked if he could take a still of the group, arranging the actors around the table to his liking. The result is this iconic image, featuring some of Hollywood's biggest names at the time including Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Norman Fell, Richard Conte, Richard Benedict, Joey Bishop, Clem Harvey, Peter Lawford, Buddy Lester, Henry Silva, Akim Tamiroff and, of course, Sammy Davis, Jr. Executed in 1960 and printed in 1978, this archival pigment print on acid free art paper is numbered six from an edition of eleven. The work is titled, extensively inscribed and dated in pencil verso, with the artist's estate copyright reproduction limitation ink stamp verso. It is signed by Ron Avery, the executor of the Sid Avery estate, and dated and numbered. The sheet measures 41 ½ x 60 inches. Four small (less than 1/8 in) tears in extreme center right margin. Otherwise excellent condition. Sid Avery (American, 1918-2002) American photographer and director Sid Avery was renowned for capturing the private moments of Hollywood icons, including Elizabeth Taylor, James Dean, Aubrey Hepburn and Marlon Brando. Avery's work appeared in the Saturday Evening Post, Look and Colliers, and was among the preeminent photographers working with celebrities. In an effort to preserve the work of early Hollywood photographers, he founded the Hollywood Photographer's Archive (HPA), known today as mptvimages.com.

After his graduation, he first worked in a camera store and additionally attended evening classes in photography. During the Second World War he worked for the U.S. Army in the central photo lab in London. After the war, Avery began to photograph movie stars like Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall. Especially his pictures of private moments of the stars made him famous. Later, Avery was a successful commercial photographer and founded the Hollywood Photographers Archives to preserve the history of Hollywood in photographs.
