      Mayna Treanor Avent (Tennessee, 1868-1959) impressionistic oil on canvas landscape painting depicting a bridge spanning a body of water, surrounded by trees with autumn foliage, a red farm visible in the background beneath a cloudy blue sky. Signed "Mayna T Avent" lower right. Handwritten note describing treatment performed by Frances de Brun Brown, circa July 1984, affixed en verso. Housed in carved giltwood frame. Sight: 18 1/2" H x 24 1/2" W. Framed: 24 1/2" H x 30 1/2" W. Biography: Mayna Treanor Avent was the daughter of Thomas O. and Mary Andrews Treanor. She was born September 17, 1868 at Tulip Grove Mansion, across the Lebanon Pike in Nashville from Andrew Jackson's Hermitage. Study at Cincinnati was followed by two years at the Academie Julien in Paris. In 1891 she married Frank Avent, a Murfreesboro attorney who later served as State Railroad Commissioner for many years. He died in 1941. Avent taught painting in Nashville for many years and exhibited throughout the US. She painted in Mass. and SC, as well as TN. She produced oil and watercolor paintings, occasional drawings, and wood block prints in the Japanese manner. She was a member of the Nashville Studio Club, the Nashville Artists Guild, and the Centennial club, which in 1951 held a retrospective of her 68 year artistic career.       Mayna Treanor Avent (Tennessee, 1865-1959) Impressionist oil on canvas painting laid to board depicting a worm's eye view of a Tennessee landscape, with a wildflower lined path leading to mountains in the background. Signed lower right "Mayna T Avent". Housed in a wide molded giltwood frame with Lyzon framing label en verso. 15 1/2" x 18 1/2" sight, 21" x 24" framed. American, late 19th/early 20th century. Provenance: A Nashville, Tennessee estate. Biography: Mayna Treanor Avent was born at Tulip Grove Mansion (across from the Hermitage), studied in Cincinnati and at the Julian Academy in Paris. Her work is in the collection of the Smithsonian Institute's National Portrait Gallery, The White House, and The Tennessee State Museum, Nashville. Her cabin studio was in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. (source: James C. Original molded giltwood frame. 16" x 19" sight, 22-1/2" x 25-1/2" framed. Circa 1920. Provenance: Private Nashville, Tennessee collection. Biography: Mayna Treanor was born in 1868 at Tulip Grove Mansion, just across Lebanon Pike in Nashville from Andrew Jackson's Hermitage.
