    Alfred Eloi Auteroche (French, 1831-1906) Painting. Title - Le Treport in Normandy. Oil on wood panel painting depicts a landscape scene of the seaside port of Le Treport on the Normandy coast of France. Signed lower left A. Auteroche, and dated 1887 lower right. Inscribed in ink, a me Maurice Fascal en Bon Souvenir, vue de rise Treport de Meers Sommer (to my Maurice Fascal Good Souvenir, view from rise Treport of Seas Somme). Painting measures 8.5 inches high, 13.2 inches wide. Frame measures 16.3 inches high, 20.5 inches wide. In good condition. Painting has minor light inpainting in the sky. Alfred Eloi Auteroche (1830-1902) was a French painter known for his landscapes, genre scenes, and still life paintings. He was born in Marseille, France in 1831, and after displaying a talent for drawing and painting at an early age, he went on to study at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris. Auteroche began exhibiting his work at the Salon de Paris in 1857 and continued to do so for many years, receiving critical acclaim for his paintings of landscapes and rural scenes. He was particularly fond of depicting the countryside of Normandy, and many of his works feature idyllic scenes of farms, fields, and small towns. Auteroche was also known for his still life paintings, which often featured arrangements of fruit, flowers, and other objects. He had a talent for capturing the subtle interplay of light and shadow, and his paintings are characterized by a delicate, naturalistic style. Throughout his career, Auteroche continued to paint and exhibit his work, winning numerous awards and accolades for his contributions to the French art world. Today, his paintings can be found in collections around the world, including the Musee des Beaux-Arts in Marseille, the Musee d'Orsay in Paris, and the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C.
