With the design of the "Locus Solus" daybed or lounger, Gae Aulenti opted for a discreet and multifunctional refinement. Starting with a minimalist, chrome-plated tubular frame, he created a versatile piece that can function as a sofa, bed or lounger. The Locus Solus series, to which this lounger belongs, takes its name from Raymond Roussel's book. It was first designed in 1967 as a collection of outdoor furniture. Initially produced by Poltronova and then by Zanotta, it was later acquired by Exteta. The collection includes a chair, a table, an adjustable lamp, a sofa, a lounger and a bench. Aulenti was inspired by the woodwork of the Sgarsul chair, an emblem of the neoliberty style, reinterpreting it in a pop key and exploring a visual language that broke with the rigors of functionalism. The result was a collection that parodied the tubular furniture of the 1960s, with sinuous and refined shapes that harmonize in every element of the series. Locus Solus was featured in the 1969 film La Piscine, directed by Jacques Deray, and the lounger from the collection was exhibited in the show A Creative Universe at the Vitra Design Museum, dedicated to prominent designers. Gae Aulenti was a renowned Italian architect, celebrated for her cultural contributions. She began her career in the early 1950s and became one of the few prominent architects in postwar Italy. Although modernism was the predominant international architectural style for much of the 20th century, Aulenti departed from its tenets to embrace neoliberty, an architectural and design theory that advocated the importance of tradition and artistic freedom within modern aesthetics. Aulenti is widely recognized for the transformation of the Gare d'Orsay into the Musée d'Orsay, the Contemporary Art Gallery at the Pompidou Center in Paris, and the restoration of the Palazzo Grassi in Venice (1985-86). He also ventured into other disciplines, such as furniture, exhibitions, graphic design and interior design.

Measurements: 90 x 55 x 55 cm. The table lamp "Pipistrello" was created by Gae Aulenti in 1965 and produced by Martinelli Luce. It stands out for its original design, inspired (as the name suggests) by a bat: the leaves of the lampshade emulate its wings and the stepped and telescopic foot emulates its body. Pipistrello is not only bold in design, but in innovative techniques for the time. The tapered base grows in height through the ribs of the diffuser. The telescopic stem and translucent shade fuse art and engineering. Gaetana Aulenti studied at the Faculty of Architecture of the Politecnico di Milano, graduating in 1954. Aulenti is one of the few women who have left a deep, sometimes controversial mark on international architecture, as well as on theatrical scenography and industrial design. Among her most outstanding architectural projects are the renovations of the Palazzo Grassi in Venice and the Musée d'Orsay in Paris, which led to many subsequent commissions, such as the Italian Pavilion at the 1992 Universal Exposition in Seville and the renovation of the National Palace of Montjuïc (Barcelona), the current home of the MNAC. It presents a slight dent in one of the bases.

Measurements: 89 cm x 73 cm x 108 cm (total); 52 cm (seat height). The Sgarsul rocking chair is a masterpiece. It features a curved wooden frame that draws an arabesque in the air intended to embellish and at the same time cushion the rocking of the suede upholstered seat. Aulenti's designs are celebrated for their unique combination of form and function, and the Sgarsul rocking chair is a prime example of his genius. Crafted with meticulous attention to detail, the chair features luxurious upholstery that enhances its sophisticated aesthetic. The ergonomic design ensures maximum comfort, while the smooth motion provides a relaxing experience. This Sgarsul rocking chair is not just a piece of furniture, but a work of art that showcases Aulenti's visionary design and Poltronova's exceptional craftsmanship. Gaetana Aulenti studied at the Faculty of Architecture at the Politecnico di Milano, graduating in 1954. The following year she began her career as editor of the magazine "Casabella-Continuità", a position she held for ten years. In 1956 she opened her own office in Milan, and four years later she joined the Industrial Design Association (ADI). In 1965 Martinelli Luce began to manufacture her most emblematic design, the "Pipistrello" lamp, and that same year she visited France, Great Britain and the United States for academic reasons. In 1966 she was appointed vice-president of the ADI, and the following year she became an honorary member of the American Society of Interior Designers. During the seventies, Aulenti also worked in collaboration with Luca Ronconi designing theatrical spaces, and in 1979 she was awarded the UBU prize for the best Italian scenography. In 1983 she received the "Medaille d'Architecture" from the Paris Academy, and the following year the Joseph Hoffmann Prize in Vienna. In 1987 she was appointed Chevalier of the French Legion of Honor. Aulenti has worked on projects for the Musée d'Orsay in Paris, the National Art Museum of Catalonia in Barcelona, the Asian Art Museum in San Francisco and the Pavela Stadium for the Olympic Games in Turin, and in 1991 she was awarded the Praemium Imperiale of the Japan Art Association.
