Yves Aubry (B 1937) French, Oil on Canvas

    Est: $200 - $400

Yves Aubry (B 1937) French, Oil on Canvas. Depicts gathered stalks in a hay field with trees in the background. Signed bottom right.  Overall: 32 1/2 X 26 1/2 in.  Sight: 25 X 19 in.  #2690 .  Yves Aubry was born in Rouen, France on August 7th, 1937. At the age of two his family relocated to Enghien-les-Bains, an affluent suburb to the north of the hub of Paris, thinking that proximity to the capital would protect them from the German invasion. Within a few months, however, the German army had swarmed through France, relocated the government seat to Vichy, and placed Paris under military control. The upper-class amenities provided some relief for a childhood fraught with indignities imposed by the Nazis, and for much of his youth and teen years he developed a fervent interest in painting to cope with the memories. From 1955 to 1957 he attended the Beaux-Arts de Paris, but his studies were interrupted after being conscripted to fight in the Algerian War. In 1961 he returned to France, where he began taking private lessons at the Académie Julian. After completing further studies at the Académie de la Grande Chaumière in 1964, he traveled to India and the Middle East to study Asiatic designs. Eventually settling back in Paris, he continues to paint in a Modern Expressionist style, regularly experimenting with oils, watercolors, gouache, and mixed media works.
