ASTRE 74 Q & A

What do you write? Are you in a crew?

ASTRE74-RUGS and many more IRIES from Paris MSG & 28 from Miami, VBA,TPS.

In what city did you start painting in the streets? Do you feel your work has influenced the community in return? If so, how? Is there a relationship between the artist and the community in which they work?

I began in Paris and except making the authorities upset there was no return from the communities.

Did you go to school or are you self taught?

I’m 100% self taught and back in the days before there was internet and people were keeping their techniques a secret.

How did you get started in the arts and why?

It’s just a continuation of what I was doing in the streets.Friends introduce you to people and things are goin on.

How long have you been working in the streets?

Forever !

Who or What inspires you the most?

People with humility who continue to develop a style year after year. The ones who don”t take graffiti seriously.

What should the general public know about street art? What stereotype about street art/graffiti do you hate the most?

Oh yeah!!! Good question! Let them wallow in their ignorance. I don’t really care about what they think. Generally they like what I hate. Stupid writers who used to be pretend kings in the 80’s dropping shitty tags on a canvas. I hate that! All my respect goes to the new generation who shut up and work hard bringing a dope style or ideas to the table! The Kind of writers that the general public don t know.

Are you a full time artist? Do you have a day job? Is it best to be full time artist or not worry about it and make your $$$ elsewhere, that way you can paint what and how you want, which one offers a more creative outlook?

It depends of my bank account.

What are you working on now?

I'm working on a series about political thought.

What do you hope to achieve or accomplish by putting your work in the street?

Nothing, I just want to have fun with my friends and continue to paint like I was still 20 years old.

Now that you are a part of the SOME LIKE IT HOT! exhibition at the HISTORY MIAMI Museum how does that change your perspective on street art and muralism? Do you think the communities perception of street art is changing?

Like in hiphop, graffiti will never have any recognizition so it won’t change anything. Maybe I should paint a cake with one eye or ugly cats with tears so I could have huge walls in wynwood paying $10,000. I’m just kidding! Graffiti for life !!
