The VAT will be refunded to Purchasers providing a validly stamped export declaration. ------------------------------------------------- ADOLPHE APPIAN (1818 Lyon 1898) Charles-François Daubigny auf seinem Hausboot beim Malen unterm Sonnenschirm. Öl auf Holz. Unten links signiert: Appian.

Adolphe Appian (French, 1818-1898) black and white etching on paper, Before the Rain, Villeneuve (Avant la Pluie, Village de Villeneuve), 1889. Signed and dated in the plate upper left. Marked, CH Deloriere Edit 15 Rue de Seine Paris in the plate lower right. Adolphe Appian was a French landscape painter and etcher. In 1866, Appian's two works that he exhibited in Paris were bought by Napoleon III and by princess Mathilde. He painted at the beginning of his career atmospheric pictures in a monochromatic palette of the riverside of the Rhone and the south of France. In 1870 he changed his style to use brilliant and striking color in his paintings but he still continued to make charcoal drawings as well as small etchings of landscapes in the Barbizon style. As an etcher, he had a distinct influence on the American artist, Stephen Parrish. Graphic art prints and collectibles.
